I haven’t used the AVG app for a long time. So I had no objection to uninstalling it. I tried using the updater’s “uninstall” button. Nothing happened. So I tried uninstalling it from “Settings”.

Nothing happened Followed the directions and rebooted in Safe Mode. Uninstalled the app. Now I can find no crumb of AVG. Tried the updater again and got the same message to update or uninstall AVG So I went to the “Help” button in the Updater window. For one thing Microsoft doesn’t seem to understand that I might have such trouble, so it’s not a option.

So I tried the “Chat”. No help again. Chose the “speak to a Person” option. Chat not available at this time. Tried the phone number. Got a message that the phone number dialed was incorrect. Considering the “” prefix to the phone number, I’m not surprised.

Very frustrating process. Left feedback to that effect repeatedly. So far no help at all. In researching this forum about the problem I found an issue listed with no installing because of incompatibility with a Intel app.

Read through that thread and found similar frustration and the thread was locked with no real solution for the OP. At this point I’m expecting the same for my post here. Thanks for nothing Microsoft. You are pushing me to seek other options, such as Linux. This thread is locked.

Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. Thanks for your feedback. Was this reply helpful? I have the same problem. Tried uninstalling AVG with both their uninstallers on their website.

Didn’t work. Thank you very much, this solved it for me. Deleted it and afterwards the update went through. I’m glad this has helped Robin Visscher.

I still search every day for AVG items. Even found a couple this morning. But still no joy. There must still be more. I’m a little puzzled that Windows Search comes up with items today that it has not found with the same search terms previously.

WTH Microsoft? I’m rather frustrated with this whole issue. MS MVP should be able to tell us exactly which folders you need to look in.

That is where those. It seems like every time windows update attempts to do these there are multiple failures and tries which because I have slow internet makes my PC almost unusable. I have had luck using Window Update Assistant use this and try it.

Official link here: Windows Update Assistant Thanks Johndonut. I was planning to follow your suggestion about searching regedit today when I turned on the PC. Scared it I think when we got to talking about Linux. For the 1st time in quite a while it has no issue with the update and apparently has finally completed the update. It seems I spoke too soon. As I typed that it has apparently completed the update, a notification appeared at the right end of the taskbar.

I interrupted my typing and checked it out. It says, once again, “Can’t install updates” Had me fooled there for a few minutes Microsoft. If you’re using Linux and it’s good, why are you on this Windows forum? Not a criticism, just trying to understand. If it’s not so good, or presents problems, any specific comments? Hey there here is a link that actually works on a complete removal of your AVG software – if this does not work the only option is to clear your dive – which of course is a last result – the link does work and have tested it on a couple of my computers running AVG Ultimate – Link is.

If uninstalled in Programs and Features it did not completely uninstall all th code. Go to AVG and get their uninstalling software.

How satisfied are you with this reply? In reply to lacrumb’s post on August 7, But apparently either there is a still a bit that the Windows 10 Updater detects that I do not see or the Windows 10 Updater is glitching. In reply to Dusty Mojave’s post on August 8, Clicking on the uninstall button my not have used their full uninstalling software.

Microsoft what do we do? I searched for a file recommended on another thread avgui. I simply deleted this whole folder and installed the update without a problem. In reply to RyanBoyle32’s post on August 17, You sir, are the man of the day!

In reply to RobinVisscher’s post on August 20, Maybe I should be looking into Linux? In reply to Dusty Mojave’s post on August 21,
